“Praise” by Elevation Worship featuring Brandon Lake, Chris Brown, and Chandler Moore is one of the biggest worship songs of the decade — a high-energy anthem about praising God in every circumstance, drawn from Psalm 150’s command: “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” It appeared on the 2023 album CAN YOU IMAGINE? and was released to Christian radio February 12, 2024, spending 31 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs. What “Praise” Is Really About
Praise as the thing you do BEFORE the breakthrough, DURING the battle, REGARDLESS of feeling. “My praise is the shout that brings Jericho down” — Joshua 6: walls fell after shouting, not fighting. Verses remove every excuse: valley/mountain, certainty/doubt, feeling it or not. “As long as I’m breathing, I’ve got a reason.”
The Lyrics, Section by Section
Opens with Psalm 150: “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” Verse 1: valley/mountain, certainty/doubt, outnumbered/surrounded — “praise is the waters my enemies drown in” (Red Sea). Chorus: “As long as I’m breathing, I’ve got a reason to praise the Lord, oh my soul” — self-preaching (Psalm 103). Verse 2: praise when you feel it and when you don’t. Bridge: circumstance → character — sovereign, reigning, risen, faithful, true, greater than all.
